Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great way to get fit I bought this bike to commute to and from work (approx. 6 miles each way), got fed up with traffic jams and figured I could do better things with the time I was normally sat in the car. I spent a long time deciding to part with the extra cash for this electric bike, but im so glad I did and wish I had sooner. Delivery was prompt after ordering and the staff at the Swindon centre from which I collected it were efficient, friendly and helpful making some final tweaks for me before I took it away. I encounter long steep hills on the way to and from work, so this bike is perfect as although unfit I can now get up them, the assist is amazing. The LCD display screen is really good and the controls and gears are easy to use. The battery is lasting on average 70k between charges (getting longer as im getting fitter) and I have had no problems. Im short so have the 16inch frame, and being a unisex frame im not stretching for the handlebars as I always have on other bikes. My route is a mix of gravel, tarmac and dirt tracks with bumpy tree roots which it handles with ease and it looks good to– I love it. Find myself wanting to ride it every where now not just to work … My mum has also now bought an electric bike and is happily commuting to work on it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what the 'Doctor' ordered!! I bought this bike to aid my rehab after knee replacement surgery. What a great decision!! I'm not known for making good purchases (ask the wife!!) but I have to say this is the best thing I could have bought. 10 days after the operation I did a very brief ride around the village and guess what? No ill effects. Now 8 days later I am doing 16 km rides and loving every minute. The electric assist is just perfect for exercising my knee without putting undue strain on it. So much better than having an exercise bike in the spare room!! I've only added mudguards, don't want a shower to stop me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hello 'Bomber' I have owned my Vulcan for 3 months and I'm so pleased with 'him'. I'm a short, fat, unfit 52 year old woman, with a bad back, dodgy knee and wrist surgery, who wanted to enjoy cycling with my fit hubby.....and 'Bomber' has not disappointed me or let me down. Everyone who has had a go wants to keep my bike. We did add a gel saddle and more ergonomic grips for comfort. It is quite simply fun! We regularly cycle 20 miles across the New Forest on bridle ways, less well made tracks and even across shallow rivers (yes I fell in) no problem for Bomber which was a huge relief being 10 miles from home & dripping wet. The terrain does impact the distance you can travel on one charge. Being very very overweight I thought my distance would be halved at best....wrong! 39 miles on my first charge, up hills, on country tracks...not bad! If I spend more time off road on what hubby's Garmin calls a path...maybe if you're a goat....then you will see that 39 miles drop to nearer 30, still very very pleased as I'm not up to cycling that far in one go yet. My joy of living in the New Forest has been enhanced, seeing it from places I've never been is fabulous. My fitness has improved. Hills are now easily climbed in tour mode that used to need climb mode and what was a daunting 8 mile ride now seems like a warm up to a proper ride. I'm so glad we made this purchase, I thought I was overweight & over the hill but Bomber has put a smile on my face and I can keep up with much younger fitter friends. As one said "if we were playing golf we'd all have a handicap, Bomber just evens out the playing field"

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best bike I've ever owned I have had this bike for just two days so only done a couple of short trips around where I live in hilly Hampshire. Ten miles on mostly flat was a delight and hardly felt I'd been cycling. Today 16 miles on tarmac and track including one long uphill tarmac section and covered the lot easily in one hour and five minutes. I'm 67, 5'9" and 11.5 stone and I could still walk and talk afterwards! The bike is brilliantly balanced, incredibly stable and inherently safe in the right hands and the exhilaration when you accelerate from start and when you hit an incline makes it an absolute pleasure to ride. I just can't praise the bike enough.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Performs just right Bought this bike mainly for commuting to and from work, I tried a normal mountain bike but struggled up the hills, had to get off and walk up some of them, this bike has changed all that, ride all the way now and not to sweaty when i arrive at work, motor kicks in just at the right times. Find myself wanting to ride it every where now not just to work, if you are considering buying this bike, do it, you'll love it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Euphoric to ride I rarely write reviews but this riding this bike is so great, I get a euphoric buzz every time I go out on it. I can’t say how much I like this. I wondered why the specification for the Carrera Vulcan said 40 miles range when it seemed to have the same battery and motor as the other Carrera Crossfire which claims 60 miles. I used Halford’s email query to ask. They had to go back to the manufacturer and it took a few days but they came back and said they both do 100km range (about 60miles) and that the 40 miles on the advert is wrong. I have done a 30 mile journey on it, 15 out on Tour and 15 back on Sport and still had 1/3rd of the battery left. The 60 mile is probably achieved with a 8 stone athlete in a Velodrome but with a new full battery I think 45-50 mile is realistic, which is amazing. I am 11.5 stone, 5ft five, 58 years old and not an athlete! I have been looking at bikes for a while. The majority say the crank drive ones are best but they cost over two thousand pounds which is too much for me. A front wheel drive bike is not great for grip, so this rear wheel drive Carrera is the best compromise and value for me. I have had it two months and it is amazing. Acceleration to 15mph is 2-3 seconds. After the acceleration surge , which puts a smile on the face, the power comes in and out so smoothly that you don’t realise. You can pedal it at what power you like so you can stay on ¾ puffed out which is great for a long term aerobic exercise without muscles becoming exhausted or a heart attack. My wife is near to the maximum weight limit for the bike but even she can do 10 miles on it and really enjoyed it. Great for getting back into exercise without doing damage. Doing 15mph down a canal tow path or wood trail is quite exhilarating. You get really close to the wild life, it does not seem to appreciate how fast you are closing on it. It does 15mph up inclines and 12mph up hills so I can average 15mph over the whole journey. It is a joy to keep whizzing along even up hill. I got up to 34mph down one hill. I thought the handle bars were a bit wide when I first got it, but at speed on a bumpy track you appreciate the stability that wide handlebars give. It is really easy to flick between speed assist settings whilst riding. tour , climb, sport. Electric bikes with the battery between the back wheel and the frame look weird to me and the ones with the battery on the carrier look a bit like your granddad’s bike. The Carrera looks neat and sporty. The service in the shop when I bought the bike was great (Central Milton Keynes). Really nice helpful staff. They had it in stock and assembled it for a 5pm pick up. I like to buy items like this from a shop not online so I can take it back and speak to a person if there is a problem (It’s my age). The seat that comes with the bike isn’t very comfy so I got a bigger one. It is heavier than a normal bike but it has a motor in it so that is to be expected. I need to get a water bottle holder for the seat stem, because the battery is in the water bottle position. Brilliant bike, brilliant service in the store and on line. Top marks all round.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great buy This a really good bike - a little heavy as there is a battery on it but with the sports mode assisting you that's no problem. would be nice if it had mudguard already as I had to add them this is a unisex bike in grey so some colour options might be nice. I need to get fit and healthier and feel this will help me a great deal

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wish I had bought one sooner! I use the bike 3-4 times a week to go to and from work (circa 2.5miles up a hill) and at the weekend with the family. After a few weeks that's me up to 120km and it's perfect. I can get home in 15 minutes, it used to take me that long in a car to travel 500m to get out of my industrial estate. The only negative is that I have also experienced the system cutting out and it definitely wasn't due to overloading the electrical system as 2 of of three times it has happened after a long free wheel down a bumpy hill. I don't know if it's a water issue or a loose connection but i will get Halfords to check it out when I pop it in for the first service. If it happens - cycle / rest for 30-45 seconds, press the charge indicator on the battery and then the control panel on button and it will have reset. Great bike, everyone that has has a go in the car park at my work comes back with a smile on their face - shame about the niggly faults with the power train.
