Wiggins Chartres Junior Hybrid Bike - 26" Wheel is rated out of 5 by 10.Rated 5 out of 5 by Tleos77 from Nice first proper bike Nice bike for my 8 year old, it's a light bike large enough to grow into and has enough gears for the hills that he has to tackle. A good looking bike and he's very happy with it. The service from Halfords was great I ordered in two sizes and both were built for me and I picked the 26" as it gave my son more growing room.Date published: 2017-09-05Rated 4 out of 5 by joen from wiggins chartres 26 The bike is great it is good value for money and should last.Date published: 2017-08-08Rated 5 out of 5 by TimRig from Lovely Hybrid Bike I was unsure whether to buy my 9 year old a road bike or mountain bike, this is a fantastic compromise. Light frame, disc brakes, 21 gears. Hybrid tyres which are great on the road and don't compromise speed too much...but ideal for bridleways etc. Great looking well designed bike...and cool for a 9 year old boy -PerfectDate published: 2017-07-31Rated 5 out of 5 by RobO55 from Cool bike for a growing 9 year old I bought this bike during the school summer holidays for my 9 year old son who grew out of his 20" wheel Apollo bike before his birthday - no consideration! With an extended motorhome holiday and bikeability at school before his birthday it was a necessity. Having trawled different bike providers I found the Wiggins Chartres to be highly specced for its price. I was specifically looking for trigger gear shifters rather than twist grip versions and disc brakes were a "nice to have" rather than a necessity. The crossbar height meant that the saddle could be adjusted low enough to get straight on the bike and ride it comfortably, but the long saddle post meant there was plenty of "growing room", so hoping this will see him into his teens. The bike received an immediate seal of approval and is lighter than his previous bike too. The only minor issue is the crank cog gear lever throw is quite a long stretch for the smaller hand. He can change gears 1-9 on the hub cogs absolutely fine, but will have to grow a little to have sufficient thumb pressure to move from 1st to 2nd or 3rd with the crank gears. Coming down the gears in the reverse order is fine as it is just a quick trigger flick. Already looking forward to exploring new holiday sites while we are touring.Date published: 2017-07-27Rated 5 out of 5 by Dunelm82 from Excellence My son's previous bicycle was too small for him so a quick bit of research suggested this bicycle. Okay it was more expensive than I had planned to spend, but having had it a couple of weeks now it really is with every penny. Great Halfords service, great product and happy patents and child. Unfortunately the next two children are saying they've now outgrown their bikes!Date published: 2017-07-14Rated 5 out of 5 by Joshim from Buy This bike is great looking, unisex appeal, great functionality and speedy.Date published: 2017-03-17Rated 5 out of 5 by PBar2016 from As good as it gets Previously had a well-known competitor’s bike which my son loved, but just didn't want to pay the high prices. So opted for this as it is light, Aluminium frame and looks the part. Added bonus was the disk brakes and the 27 speed gears, My 8 year old son took to it straight away and take the hills without issue. He said it was easier to ride than his previous bike, I guess based on the fact it is bigger and therefore has bigger wheels etc. Only disappointment for me is the price has dropped even further so I reckon it's a real bargain for any new purchases. I would never go back to a non-aluminium bike any more,Date published: 2016-08-12Rated 5 out of 5 by Huw45 from High spec for the price I bought two of these bikes for both my sons to compete in Triathlons (ages 7 and 8). We wanted lightweight bikes that had "trigger" shift gears and disc brakes with the option to change tyres for different surfaces and this model ticked all the boxes. My boys have ridden these bikes hard on different surfaces for the last three weeks and so far no problems, very pleased with purchase!Date published: 2016-08-09
