The Halfords Premium Pedal Spanner is expertly designed to make pedal removal and installation quick and hassle-free. Its longer handle provides extra leverage for stubborn pedals, while the rubber grip ensures comfort and a secure hold during use. The handle includes a built-in 8mm hex key slot, allowing you to insert an 8mm hex wrench to extend the lever length and provide extra leverage when removing stubborn or seized pedals.
When working with pedals, it's important to remember that the left pedal is reverse threaded - meaning it tightens by turning anti-clockwise and loosens by turning clockwise. The right pedal has a standard thread, tightening clockwise and loosening anti-clockwise.
For particularly stubborn or seized pedals, applying a penetrating oil can make removal easier, always allow sufficient time for the oil to properly penetrate. Before installing new pedals, always apply grease to the pedal threads. This prevents creaking, protects the crankarm threads, and helps stop pedals from seizing in the future.
